Volleyball
So guess who started volleyball? Me! I started in late January to early February since the classes are every month. I always wanted to do volleyball since I was in elementary, I joined the tryouts but wasn’t accepted until I got an invitation to join for the 6 grade, but that was when I was moving to the Philippines so I had to decline the offer and then covid happened and I felt like I was too old to learn it but my mom pushed me to join and I did. In this module, we were learning dig pass, receive, and set receive, and at the end of the module, we had a mini tournament with the other branches of the group. During my first lesson, we had an introduction on what we were going to do when I told the coaches I have never done proper volleyball only a little fun with my friends in Hong Kong they understood but they didn’t seem to mind that I was new since I picked up the sport very quickly but I wasn’t very good right away. My confidence and self-esteem were very low so I was in the intermediate group, there was supposed to be a beginner, intermediate, and prodigy group but since there were not many kids there were only two sections, intermediate and prodigy.
After my first and second lessons, the muscles on my body died figurately, my legs were so sore that walking hurt and my arms were a bit bruised from the ball hitting them. When we finished all the lessons for the module, it was time for the tournament the intermediate group was going to start on Saturday from 9 am-4 pm, we were all nervous since our group was going to be the first one. It was Antipolo VS Quezon city, and I was a substitute for my teammates since this was my first tournament, and when I got on the court all of my nerves were shaking, everyone gets a turn to serve the ball and since it was my turn I was scared if I hit the ball to lightly and we lose the point, luckily it hit the other team’s side of the court and we got a point! and then when I served again I missed and got super embarrassed and I wanted to evaporate into the air, but we still won the match and waited for our turn again. In the next match, we lost since the other team’s service kept on hitting our side of the court, and then we lost again, but for the last two games we won. Sadly we didn’t win of course but out of the 6 teams, our team got third place tied to Antipolo, I had a lot of regrets about my performance and I want to get better and improve so I will join the next module and I hope I have a lot to share after my lessons and tournament!
