Sugar in beverages

Sugar can be found everywhere, especially soft drinks and juice. And sometimes we underestimate how much sugar is in our drinks. Luckily we have math to help us!

In every packaging for every product to exist, there is a nutrition label or what ingredients used for the product. We can use the information on the beverages as a guide for our equation.

First find the serving per size of the bottle, usually it shows beside the nutrition information, the coke, sprite and juice have 240 Ml and then find the sugar count, convert the sugar grams into Ml, since each drink have different sugar grams we will start with coke. The coke has 18 grams so convert it to tsp it is 4.05 tsp. 1 L bottle = 1000Ml / 240Ml * 18 = 75 tsp so 75 tsp in 1 liter of coke. And repeat the same process with the other two beverages.

For the sprite, the sprite has 12 grams sugar convert it to tsp is 2.7 and has 1.5 Liters so 1.5 bottle = 1500Ml/ 240Ml * 12 = 75 tsp Oh also the same as coke.

Now let’s try the juice, 24 grams sugar convert it to tsp is 6 tsp and there is 473 Ml so no need to convert it, 473/240 *24 = 47 tsp.

All in all the coke and the sprite has the most sugar. You can see the sugar comparison in the pictures below, so the next time you drink think about how much sugar you are taking. ;D
