Polymer

Hey! I made accessories with polymer clay. I made rings, earrings, and a George Washington paperweight.

I started this project for my history and arts project, since I was learning about the history of the first president of the United States, but I had other ideas for the rest of the clay. So I’ll talk about my process of the clay then about Washington after.

Polymer clay is very hard plastic clay when you first take it out of the packaging, once you add some water and keep fondling it, it will become soft. I used white polymer for the rings and Washington, while I used red, orange and black for the earrings.

I used some tools I borrowed from my mom to sculpted George’s face, which was very hard- and I also don’t really like how he looks actually, but this is my first time sculpting a face so I shouldn’t be hard on myself. After I sculpted good old George, I made a snake ring, I used a big marker that almost has the same size as my finger and wrap the clay in a spiral shape on the marker. And for the flower earrings, I made small thick circles and squish them to a flower petal shape, and I made a black leaf. I also made another ring which the white diamond is glow in the dark.

We baked the clay in the oven for around 30 minutes, and let is cool after a while. After the clay cooled, I painted the snake, rings and George. And I added a coating to make it shiny, and it was done.

Now a quick history of George Washington, George Washington was the first ever U.S president. During the American revolution George Washington was commander in chief of the Continental army, after the revolution he was elected as president, he didn’t wanted to be president at first, but after everyone asked him to be he accepted, he served 2 terms. George Washington also wrote the basic rules for being a president. He always tried to keep things calm whenever a war was about to break out. Washington always trying to set up a good example of fairness, prudence and integrity. He signed the first United States copyright law, protecting the copyrights of authors. He also signed the first Thanksgiving proclamation, making November 26 a national day of Thanksgiving for the end of the war for American independence and the successful ratification of the Constitution.

Another fact during the time of his death in 1799, George Washington owned some 300 enslaved people. However, before his passing, he had become opposed to slavery, and in his will, he ordered that his enslaved workers be freed after his wife’s death.
