Visiting my 100 year-old great grandpa

Remember in quarter 2, I did a artwork about the death march, well we had visited my great grandfather with some of my other family members, my parents, sibling, cousins, aunt, uncles, my grandma, grandpa and my grandma’s siblings, my grandma and her siblings were excited about meeting their dad again, great grandpa lived quite far, it was a four hour trip to his place, so all of us had to wake up at 3 am, and staying in a car with a baby for four hours is not the best experience.

To spare you the details the trip was mostly eating snacks, sleeping and cleaning up puke.

We had a little pit stop, it was my great grandma’s old house, it was now abandon, and there was a writing in the wall “Huwang umihi dito , mangyaring igalang.” Right off the bat I knew what umihi and dito means but I didn’t understand the other words so I asked my mom, she said that translated to “please don’t pee here, please respect.” Me and my cousins were calling that the pit of pee, but of course we wouldn’t want to be late, so we went back to the car and continued the trip.

We were only around 15 to 20 minutes away from great grandpa’s house, when we arrived, they had food prepared for us, I was quite full because we ate in the car, so i didn’t eat much.

The last time I met great grandpa was 5 years ago, I couldn’t remember what he look like before, but looking at him now he is skinny, you could see his bones, he had white hair, he mostly sat down since he is weak, he had long nails, his hearing was bad you had to go very close to his ear for him to hear you, and his teeth were quite long, I asked my mom about his teeth, she said that has something to do with the gums, but I brushed off the topic since everyone was busy talking, most of the time I played with my cousins, we played, draw and took pictures, then it began to rain.

And the rain just keep pouring, luckily great grandpa already went inside, so it was my mom and her siblings left. They were talking about stuff, while I was thinking on my own thoughts. Lucky for us the rain stopped as soon as it came. We stayed around until it was 3pm. We ate one last time and before we left we took a group picture, it was very crowded after a few pics everyone was saying bye. I said bye to great grandpa, but I think he couldn’t hear me, and I wouldn’t want to shout, so we just blessed and went back to the car,I felt a bit guilty since I couldn’t ask him about what happened in WW2, but I wouldn’t want to make him uncomfortable at the same time.

It was almost around 7pm, we ate at a outdoor restaurant, we had a good time eating and talking. But my social energy is almost out so I also wanted to go home at the same time. It was a neat experience, meeting someone over 100 years and meeting my family members again, and able to go outside again.
