Wonder Wednesday – Mind Museum

Hello! We are in the Mind Museum in BGC, it is a fun and interactive museum for all ages. When you first enter the museum you will see caricatures of scientists and fun facts about themselves you will also meet a robot which will welcome you into the museum.

When you go in further you are in the marine section, full of animals and corals, one area shows you the process of how scientists cultivate pearls in a healthy and safe way. You can learn about sea creatures, look at the national sea creatures of the Philippines and watch the vast ocean there.

If you walk more you will reach the theme about outer space, you can see a astronut figure, and you can take a picture of your face and it will appear on the screen making your selfie jump on Mars. They were even showing different planets that are similar to earth and their pros and cons, you can also see a bright fake moon. You can also see how astronauts live in space stations and there are dolls where you can imagine what the doll astronauts do.

There was also a performance or a mini show to watch when we entered there you had to sit on some reclined chairs, but unfortunately, when the video was played from our seats it was upside down not really enjoyable to watch. The video was about our planets and Galilelo which I think I discussed before. Once you leave the space section you have to walk this very dizzy path, it is like going through a black hole, there is a spinning background as you walk straight giving the illusion that you are spinning which makes you feel like you are spinning.

After you have left space, you are greeted with rocks and fossils, you will see a huge skeleton of a tyrannosaurus rex. There are also rocks and fossilized poop, you can even see different periods of dinosaurs and early life before humans, with each discussing how they existed and how it all went extinct. Then you will watch another short film this time you all sit in the middle and watch a film about the different periods of dinosaurs and the circle of life. Then you will transition into the earth area about plants, volcanos, and natural disasters. There was a mini tornado which you can turn on and you can touch and feel this mini make shift tornado and there is even an Earthquake similator which was super fun to try, you are in a pretend house with fake kitchen utensils and when you are inside the floor will start shaking with you on it.

Then there was the animal section from gorillas to butterflies, which I joked to John telling him that he looked like the gorllia statue I pointed at. In the animal area it showed about predators and prey, the hiarchy in the animal kingdom the effects humans have on them. Near the animal section was the human body and mind, we went inside a human brain and spotted out the different functions of them. There was also about neurons and genetics, there was a mirror where you and you parent would stand on the opposite side and try to align your face with theirs, and you would see how much you inherited from them.

After that, you will arrive at some fun brain-tickling stuff, with a bit of optical illusion and electricity, there were also those fun games where you try not to touch the metal pole with the stick or you will lose, and you could create your own atom with toys. They even have the Van De Graaff generator, what is that you may ask? Well, do you know that giant metal lolipop contraption, the one that makes your hair fly everywhere after you touch it for a while? I have learned about this and I can explain why your hair is flowing when you touch this thing.

The Van De Graaff generator is a machine that harnesses electrons outside which are positive and negative and charges the giant metal dome positively and charges the metal rod connected to it negatively, and when the rod and the metal dome touch, you see a spark. Inside the generator is a conveyer belt that carries positive and negative electrons, and at each end there is a brush that absorbs negative or positive electrons depending on the material of each brush. And each brush carries the electrons to either the rod or the metal dome. Now when you touch the metal dome, the electrons in you are also being absorbed especially the negative electrons which leave you all positive, and all the positive electrons go up to the tip of your hair strands causing them to stand up. And if you touch something with more negative charge, OUCH, static, which is the same zap as when the rod and the metal dome touch, a discharge of static electricity.

There were also live experiments in the science area, we watched two shows at different times, one was about dry ice and how it made a plastic bottle fly. And another about water and how the water didn’t fall when the scientist turned the glass upside down with just a tissue covering the water. It was fun they even let some kids volunteer and help be mini assistants.

Anyways we had to go upstairs, while going up there was a piano stairway and me and my brother together played Twinkle twinkle little star. The upstairs is a small room that taught about light and colors, and when we got back down we noticed a dark room and that dark room that captures your shadow like a photograph on the wall! Now we went to the 2nd floor which showcased the future, technology, instruments, and a healthy diet. It wasn’t much exciting as the 1st floor but very informative not sure if a lot of young kids would listen properly.

Finally we were done with the museum, this was actually my favorite wonder Wednesday I have ever experienced so far. I love how enjoyable and interactive everything was, with the bright colors and fun games that you can play while learning! There is soo much I wish to share but that is all for now, bye!
