Trading in the Philippines
Trade is the Philippines serves many purposes for the country, you wouldn’t have that cool bag that probably came from Singapore or the United States, the Philippines has good natural resources to offer for other countries, for example, we have our mangoes, coconuts, ube, rice and much more, and our international friends favor these products and goods.
“Spanning more than 300,000 sq km, the Republic of the Philippines reaches from Taiwan in the north to Indonesia in the south. In terms of territorial size, it is the fourth-largest country in South-east Asia after Indonesia, Myanmar and Thailand. Bordered by the South China Sea in the west and the Sulu and Celebes seas in the south, the Philippines is home to some 175 ethnolinguistic groups across over 7000 islands.”
During the Spanish colonial period, the Spanish introduced the native Filipinos, their culture,Christianity, language,weapons, and the natives shared their fruits, their geographic knowledge about the islands and animals, and their culture, and they continued to share and trade each other for the next three hundred years. The trade between these two countries mixed together and created the Philippines named after the Spanish king Philip II, who was king of Spain. But even before the Spaniards came to the Philippines, they were already trading with neighboring countries like, China, Japan, India and etc..
As the world began to move forward so did technology grew, and people found new products to produce and sell, China started to manufacture different kinds of goods, the U.S. sold military goods and their views to the world, but what did the Philippines offer? The Philippines sold electronics, karaoke machines, canned goods, sugar and other agricultural goods.
Now, the Philippines exports electronic products, mineral fuels, machinery, grains, chemical and plastic. The Philippines still continues to trade with the ASEAN countries and Hong Kong, but also with other countries around the world. “ However, major problems still remain, mainly related to alleviating the wide income and growth disparities between the country’s different regions, reducing corruption, and investing in the infrastructure necessary to ensure future growth.”
